Frequently Asked MADIS CWOP Questions

Question:

What is CWOP?

Answer:

CWOP stands for the Citizens Weather Observing Program. For more information, visit the CWOP site.

Question:

Just curious, how does my CWOP data get into MADIS? My weather station is up and running and I have verified the data in CWOP and it is posting fine in WeatherUnderground.

Answer:

The data packets go through APRS-IS to the findU server and then are FTPed to the MADIS server at regular intervals. The CWOP manager will check that your plotted location on findU is not unreasonable and then register you in CWOP. Your data will be available in MADIS, and on AWIPS and MesoWest, after the Wednesday following registration. Please note that CWOP is not associated in any way with Weather Underground.
