Frequently Asked Provider Data Questions

Question:

Who are the data providers you receive data from?

Answer:

All Surface Providers are listed here.

Question:

Is it possible for certain providers' data sets to be offline for a period of time, and, if so, are there averages of such time period?

Answer:

Outage duration are provider and situation dependent. They can be caused by comms, network, formats, firewalls, field equipment, processing, and people. What causes the outage usually determines the how long the data is out. MADIS does not currently keep averages of the time periods providers have been down.

Question:

As we monitor our largest test system's outputs, we have noticed that certain MADIS mesonet data providers' data never seem to be present in the unzipped files.

Answer:

I've listed your "not-found-providers" under 2 categories:

MADIS-NWS (We have data for those sites at NWS) and Down indefinitely. (Providers who have a unknown return date)

A simple test for data can be performed using the MADIS surface dump program.
You will need to login from an approved IP for your account to access the NOAA data.
